Irving 'Stub' Barron      Iowa Wikipedia

Irving 'Stub' Barron attended Correctionville High School and lived in Correctionville, Iowa.

COLLEGE: He played right tackle on the UI freshman football team, where he was chosen as captain. He also wrestled at 200 pounds.He sat out the 1914 season after breaking his forearm in a game against Cornell. He was elected captain of the 1915 football team, and earned 2nd team all-conference. He also won the heavyweight wrestling Championship of the West that season, and won the Big Ten wrestling championship in 1916.

He earned nine letters, three in football, three in wrestling and three in track and field.

PROFESSIONAL: The Davenport Athletic Cub recruited Barron for its pro team, but he passed on the offer and moved to Denver in 1918 to coach the Colorado School of Mines.

OTHER: After his coaching career at the Colorado School of Mines, he began coaching with Moray Eby at Coe College in 1922. He coached the UI freshman football team in 1916 and 1917 while taking classes at the College of Law, and later in 1924. In 1998, he was inducted into the UI’s Athletics Hall of Fame for both football and wrestling. He also attended the first day of fall football practice for 65 straight years, from 1912 to 1977. He helped form the UI booster club, the Monday Morning Quarterback Club.

Born 11/10/1890 and died on 8/18/1979 at the age of 88.

All Conference: 2nd Team (1915), Honorable Mention (1914), 1st Place (1916) U of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame
