Fred Mims       

HIGH SCHOOL: Fred Mims attended Galesburg High School and lived in or near Galesburg, Illinois. He was a two-sport athlete that was drafted by the Chicago Cubs 5th round during high school. He first attended Spoon River Junior College (IL) and later transferred to Iowa to play baseball and basketball.

COLLEGE: He was a two-sport letterwinner in both basketball and baseball. He was a two-time first-team all-Big Ten selection in baseball, leading Iowa to a Big Ten title and College World Series berth in 1972. He was drafted a few more times, and reached Triple-A in the Houston Astros' organization before injuries ended his career.

OTHER: He was an Iowa athletics administrator for 38 years. He joined the Iowa staff in 1977 and held the title of associate athletics director for 25 years before retiring in 2015. He was elected to the U of Iowa Hall of Fame in 2021.
