Richard 'Dick' Woodard      Iowa Wikipedia 

Position(s): OL, LB

Richard 'Dick' Woodard attended Fort Dodge High School and lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was an all-state fullback. After his first season at Iowa in 1944, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy half-way through his sophomore year and served on the USS DD-Renshaw, after which he was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Iowa for his last 3 seasons. He was a team captain for many games his senior season in 1948. He also played for the University baseball team as catcher during his freshman year, wrestled for the University during his sophomore year.

He was drafted by the New York Giants in the 1948 NFL Draft. He signed with the Los Angeles Dons and played one year in the All-America Football Conference before joining the National Football League. He played as offensive lineman (primarily center) and defensive linebacker for the New York Giants (1950-1951), the Washington Redskins (1952), and the New York Giants (1953-1954).

After football, he held positions with the I-Club and sat on Iowa's scholarship board for many years in the Quad Cities area.

Born 7/26/1926 and died on 8/24/2019 at the age of 93.

All Conference: Honorable Mention (1948) Drafted Round 21 by New York Giants in 1948
