HIGH SCHOOL: Mark Sindlinger attended Charles City High School and lived in or near Charles City, Iowa. He played defensive tackle, offensive tackle, and fullback was a three-year starter. He was a first team all-state selection in 1982 while excelling in wrestling and track and field.

He won his first of three state heavyweight titles as a sophomore while compiling a 21-1 record. He followed that up with a 18-1 record as a junior while going unbeaten as a senior with a 25-0 record. In 1982, as a junior, he also won the Junior National Freestyle championship and in 1983 he was a Junior National Greco Champion. He was also named to the First team All-State squad as a defensive tackle while also qualifying for state track in the discus.

COLLEGE: He was a four-year letterwinner at Iowa, starting three years at center and playing in four bowl games, including the 1986 Rose Bowl while winning a Big Ten title.

He redshirted in wrestling and was able to wrestle one full season for Iowa, and multiple partial seasons (after football season was over). Even with limited mat time, he was a two-time Big Ten Champion (1987 and 1988) while placing 4th and 6th in the NCAA championship, earning All-American honors. He was part of three NCAA wrestling championship teams.

OTHER: He is a member of the IHSAA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012, and the IHSAA Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
