Ernest 'Ernie' Sheeler       

Ernest 'Ernie' Sheeler attended Xenia Woodrow Wilson High School and lived in Xenia, Ohio. He competed in sports at Woodrow Wilson High School, which was located on campus of the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Home where he lived. He won 11 letters, four each in football and track and field, and three in basketball. He was named All-state in football three straight years, and was a captain on the football and basketball teams as a senior.

At Iowa, he played sparingly in 1975, carrying 4 times for 21 yards. He missed the last 5 games in the 1976 season with a knee injury, but was able to rush for 362 yards in 85 carries and 3 TDs. Before the injury, he had a breakout game against Syracuse, rushing for 139 yards on 18 carries and 2 TDs, including a 53-yard run. He later rushed for 94 yards on 21 carries and one TD against his home state team Ohio State.
