HIGH SCHOOL: John Alt attended Columbia Heights High School and lived in or near Columbia Heights, Minnesota. He was named to Parade, Sunkist and Adidas All-America team. He selected Iowa over Notre Dame, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern.

COLLEGE: After playing as a Tight End in 1980 and 1981, he bulked up from 230 as a freshman to 275 pounds, making a smooth transition from tight end to offensive tackle in the spring of 1982.

In 1982, he was named to the 2nd Team All-Big Ten. In his senior season, he was named AP Honorable Mention All-America, AP 1st Team All-Big Ten, and UPI 1st Team All-Big Ten. He was also invited to the Japan Bowl and the Hula Bowl.

PROFESSIONAL: He was drafted in the 1st round of the 1984 NFL draft as the 21st overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs, and had a prolific 13-year career from 1984–1996. He was named to the Chiefs Ring of Honor in 2002 after being named to the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl (1992-93), All-AFC (1990-91), and All-Pro teams (1990-91).
