John Alt      Minnesota Wikipedia Hawkeye Sports Profile 

John Alt attended Columbia Heights High School in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. He was named to Parade, Sunkist and Adidas All-America team. He selected Iowa over Notre Dame, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern.

After playing as a Tight End in 1980 and 1981, he bulked up from 230 as a freshman to 275 pounds, making a smooth transition from tight end to offensive tackle in the spring of 1982.

In 1982, he was named to the 2nd Team All-Big Ten. In his senior season, he was named AP Honorable Mention All-America, AP 1st Team All-Big Ten, and UPI 1st Team All-Big Ten. He was also invited to the Japan Bowl and the Hula Bowl.

He was drafted in the 1st round of the 1984 NFL draft as the 21st overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs, and had a prolific 13-year career from 1984–1996. He was named to the Chiefs Ring of Honor in 2002 after being named to the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl (1992-93), All-AFC (1990-91), and All-Pro teams (1990-91).
