Garet 'Jerry' Reichow

Garet 'Jerry' Reichow attended Decorah High School and lived in Decorah, Iowa.

He was Iowa's MVP his senior year, earned All-Big Ten quarterback honors, and left school as its all-time leader in total offense.

He was drafted in the 1956 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions in the 4th Round. Reichow played relief duty at quarterback in the 1957 NFL Championship Game, then three years later, he was a member of the Eagles’ 1960 championship club. In 1961, he had his best season, earning Pro Bowl honors catching 50 passes for 859 yards and 11 touchdowns.

After retiring, he joined the Minnesota Vikings, and is the only person who has been with the Vikings for their entire 59-season history and one of the longest-serving employees in the NFL. He has been a wide receiver, scout, personnel director and consultant.

Jerry and I knew each other since we were 18. He had called me a year before, asking if I was interested in a scouting job. I was coaching at Iowa, and after we all got fired, he gave me another call. I came to visit. It was kind of a natural, because I played for Bud [Grant in the Canadian Football League], I played with Jerry and I played against [Vikings GM] Jim Finks. They got me up there to talk, and it was like old home week. It turned out to be a very good marriage.
