William 'Bill' Reichardt        

HIGH SCHOOL: William 'Bill' Reichardt attended City High School and lived in or near Iowa City, Iowa. He received a place on the All-State football team in 1946 and 1947.

COLLEGE: He rushed for over 150 yards against both Michigan and Minnesota, and gained 737 yards from scrimmage in 1951. He rushed for 1,691 yards for his Iowa career. He also converted on 51 of 63 extra points. He was unanimous all-conference selection.

PROFESSIONAL: He was drafted by Green Bay Packers in the 7th round of the 1952 NFL draft. He played professionally for one season.

OTHER: In 1964, he was elected to the Iowa State Legislature where he served Polk County for two years in the Iowa House of Representatives. In 1966, he won election to the Iowa State Senate, where he served four years. He was also responsible for sponsoring a bill to resume the annual Iowa – Iowa State football game. In 1994, Reichardt was a Democratic candidate for governor during the primary elections and in 1999 he circulated a petition to become a mayoral candidate for the City of Des Moines, but did not pursue the position.

Born 6/24/1930 and died on 6/1/2004 at the age of 73.
