Scott Plate      Michigan Hawkeye Sports Profile

HIGH SCHOOL: Scott Plate attended Columbia Central High School and lived in or near Brooklyn, Michigan. He was named 2nd team all-state, all-area (as RB and DB), captain and offensive MVP on his team. He held the school record with 14 career interceptions and rushed for 1,280 yards and 18 TDs as a senior (including 5 TDs in one game). He also intercepted three passes in one game and returned two for TDs. Despite having a brother (Todd) as a defensive back and cousin (Troy) as an offensive lineman for Michigan, he chose Iowa.

COLLEGE: He redshirted in the 1989 season and was named scout team defensive MVP for the Michigan State game. In 1990, he saw action in all 12 games and made 32 tackles (28 solo), with a career-high 7 tackles at Illinois. In 1991, he started at left cornerback and had 2 interceptions (Ohio State and Purdue) and 7 pass break-ups (5th in the conference). During the 1992 season, he started atl 12 games, had 44 tackles, 7 pass breakups and 2 more intereceptions. During his senior season in 1993, he recorded five interceptions, 8 pass break-ups and 42 tackles (32 solo). He was a three year starter at cornerback from 1990-1993, and played in the Rose, Holiday and Alamo bowls.

PROFESSIONAL: He had a brief career in the Canadian Football League.

OTHER: He fractured his skull during an altercation, and the injury eventually led to brain surgery and likely his death.

Born 7/1/1970 and died on 8/25/2013 at the age of 43.
