HIGH SCHOOL: O.J. Payne attended West High School and lived in or near Davenport, Iowa. He was first-team all-conference, second-team all-state, team captain and MVP as a senior. He was named second team all-conference as a sophomore and junior. He earned 4 letters in football, and 2 in both wrestling and track and field. He went to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls after high school where he played defensive line and fullback, then transferred to Iowa as a walk-on.
