Oran Pape      Iowa Wikipedia

Oran Pape attended Senior High School in Dubuque, Iowa. He lettered in basketball, football, and track, and helped lead his team to the 1924 Iowa football state championship. He attended the University of Dubuque, but later transferred to the University of Iowa to continue his football.

In 1928, he had a 67-yard touchdown run in a 7-6 victory over Minnesota.

In 1929, he led the Hawks to 9-7 victory over the Gophers with a game-winning TD run late in the game.

He was ruled ineligible for playing semi-pro football, so he went on to play professionally in the NFL for five different teams, including the Green Bay Packers, where he was a member of the 1930 NFL Championship team.

After he was done with football, Pape moved back to Iowa and joined the Iowa Highway Patrol. He had been on duty for about eight months when he was shot in the line of duty at age 32. The Interstate-80 bridges over the Cedar River in Cedar County, Iowa are named in his honor (Trooper Oran Pape Memorial Bridge).

Born 3/10/1904 and died on 4/30/1936 at the age of 32.
