FAMOUS QUOTES about John Niland

Jerry Burns Jerry Burns  from Iowa vs. Northwestern on 10/23/1965
I must say in praise of Niland that he took his demotion to the second this week with a fine attitude. Often a player has a different attitude. But Niland hustles. He's a good kid. What he doesn't recognize is that he must play with full intensity on every play. You know, we have no depth on this squad. Niland is smart enough to realize that we replaced him only as a psychological move, because the other boy does not have nearly as much ability. The other boy also realizes this.

- Burns on his decision to bench All-American John Niland in the mid of a 8 game Big Ten losing streak.
