HIGH SCHOOL: Jeff Nelson attended Stillwater High School and lived in or near Stillwater, Minnesota. He was named USA Today all-America (honorable mention), consensus all-state, two-time all-league and team captain. He had 221 tackles, 13 for losses, and 14 passes knocked down in high school, and helped his team to a 21-5 mark the last two seasons. He was the school's all-time leading scorer in basketball, named team MVP, and was three-time all-conference.

COLLEGE: He played four seasons without redshirting, and was a key player on two top-ranked Iowa teams (1990 and 1991). He finished with 77 solo tackles, 50 assisted tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 8 sacks.
