Lew Montgomery          

HIGH SCHOOL: Lew Montgomery attended East High School and lived in or near Waterloo, Iowa. He rushed for 861 yards (13 TDs) and had six interceptions as senior. He scored five TDs in one game, and rushed for 905 yards as a junior and 950 yards as sophomore, scoring 46 career TDs. He was named the USA Today's state of Iowa Player of the Year and Super Prep honorable mention all-American on offense and defense, and was a two-time USA Today honorable mention all-American. He was twice named first team All-State football running back by the Des Moines Register, and was the conference MVP. He was team captain and twice named team MVP. He chose Iowa over Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Michigan State.

COLLEGE: He lettered all 4 seasons, and served as co-captain during his senior season. After redshirting in 1988, he switched from tailback to fullback. He was injured for half of the 1990 season, but returned to finish out the year. He scored 17 career touchdowns, rushing for 1,093 yards on 266 carries, and earned all-Big Ten honorable mention his junior season.

OTHER: He was inducted into the Iowa High School (IHSAA) Football Hall of Fame in 2007. He has been honored with the Waterloo Key to the City Award. He serves on several boards for multiple non-profit and community organizations, and part of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. He also serves as a TV sports analyst for KCRG 9.2, KGAN/Fox Sports 28, and co-host on WMT Radio 600 Iowa Hawkeye Huddle post-game radio shows during the fall.

His son Lucas was diagnosed with a rare, life limiting genetic disorder called Sanfilippo Syndrome, and he created a nonprofit organization to raise funds to support research.
