HIGH SCHOOL: John Mickelson attended Valley High School and lived in or near West Des Moines, Iowa. He lettered in basketball, football and baseball. He helped his team to an undefeated regular season as a tight end and defensive end, and was named team captain.

COLLEGE: He joined as a walk-on in 1999, and played sparingly in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

OTHER: In 2017, he was involved in selling Iowa Wave shirts to help raise money for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. In six years, the shirts raised approximately $2 million.
