Marcos Melendez attended Antilles High School and lived in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. Fort Buchanan is a United States Army Military Installation located in the city of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. He was the son of a career Army Soldier and was an outstanding student athlete, lettering in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Antilles had the best coaches with connections to Idaho and Iowa, which is how he ended up as a Hawkeye.

Born 10/4/1948 and died on 12/12/2020 at the age of 72.
