Jovon Johnson           

Jovon Johnson attended Mercyhurst Prep High School and lived in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was not highly recruited, and had no other Power 5 school offers except for Iowa.

During his junior season ending in the memorable 2005 Capital One Bowl win, he set the tone defensively, tying for the team lead with 4 interceptions that season.

He ended up as a rare 4-year starter, starting as a true freshman. He earned all-Big Ten honors three times, twice landing on the first team. His 17 career interceptions from 2002-05 rank second on Iowa’s all-time list, one behind legendary Nile Kinnick and Devon Mitchell.

Johnson went undrafted after his senior season, but was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers where he lasted for one season. He played the majority of the last 12 seasons in the CFL. Johnson finished his outstanding Canadian career with 564 total tackles and 35 interceptions. He was a 2-time CFL All-Star and was named the CFL’s 2011 Defensive Player of the Year.

Johnson is now coaching defensive backs coach at Defiance College, a private university in Ohio.
