RECAP

The Hawks didn't believe they were 2-TD underdogs, pulling a major upset over #12 USC on the road. The Hawks were led by halfback Jerry Faske from Brooklyn, NY, who scored two TDs and totaled 124 yards on only 14 carries. The win was the first game as head coach for Leonard Raffensberger, and it gave him revenge against the Trojans, when he lost as a player back in 1925.

Duane Brandt set up the winning score with a 52-yard punt return down to the 16-yard line

USC dedicated the game to Sam Barry, former Trojan and Iowa coach who had died during a scouting trip the week earlier.

The team returned to a bonfire celebration rally on campus that was organized by UI President Virgil Hancher.
