Already a 14-point underdog, the Hawks played without their All-American captain Calvin Jones, who suffered a knee injury earlier in the week at practice. UCLA's Sam Brown scored 3 TDs, including a 67-yard punt return. The teams traded scores in the 1st quarter, but Iowa was unable to capitalize deep in UCLA territory before halftime. Brown's punt return in the third quarter made the score 20-7. An Iowa fumble on the kickoff led to another Bruins score, making it 26-7. Jerry Reichow drove the Hawks down and scored on a 3-yard TD, but due to an injury to kicker Jim Freeman, Alex Karras had to kick the extra point and missed. A late 75-yard TD pass tacked on another score for UCLA.
