RECAP

Joe Williams ran back a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown, that sealed the win for the Hawkeyes in the 2nd quarter. Iowa who was up 28-0 had just given up a touchdown to Notre Dame to make the score 28-7. The kickoff return completely knocked the wind out of Notre Dame's thoughts of a comeback.

Iowa was ahead 42-7 going into the final minute of play. The Irish scored 2 touchdowns :20 seconds apart against Iowa's second string, to make the score look more respectable. Iowa recovered 6 fumbles and intercepted 5 Notre Dame passes.

Iowa coach Jerry Burns had missed practices during the week due to the flu. The seniors carried him off the field at the end of the game. There had been reports of a replica of him being hung in effigy in a tree in Iowa City that week after Iowa had lost 4 in a row after being ranked #5 in the country.
