The Hawks fell behind early, as much as 21-9 halfway through the first half. Even Brauns made a key 3-point play that energized the crowd, and triggered an 8-0 scoring run to get Iowa within 1 point at halftime. The Huskies started the 2nd half the same way they started the game with a 8-0 run. Iowa fought back to tie the game at 48 with a scramble that ended with a Brock Harding 3-pointer. Payton Sandfort scored six straight points in just 22 seconds to give Iowa its first lead in the game. He would go on to take the game over down the stretch as he scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half and also grabbed 9 rebounds on the game. Josh Dix added 15 points, and Harding also contributed 11 points off the bench. The Hawkeye bench outscored Washington 36-16. Fran McCaffery won his 200th game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
