RECAP

The Hawkeyes got behind 12-0 to the 5-1 Minnesota Gophers at halftime. Iowa had given up an easy touchdown after an interception, a field goal following a fumble, and later had a blocked punt in the end zone resulting in a Gopher safety. Iowa offensive lineman Barry Tomasetti and Minnesota defensive lineman Jim Ronan were both ejected from the game in the second quarter for fighting.

Iowa was sparked in the second half by a 70 yard touchdown pass from Butch Caldwell to Bill Schultz. The Hawkeyes got the ball back and on it's next possession lost Caldwell to injury. Tom McLaughlin came in and completed all six of his passes, including a touchdown and a two point conversion. Iowa tacked on another touchdown on a 42 yard touchdown run by Nate Winston to make the score 22-12 Hawkeyes.

Iowa outgained Minnesota 419 to 279 on the day, including 249 yards rushing for the Hawkeyes. Minnesota quarterback Tony Dungy led the Gophers in rushing with 51 yards, and passing with 121 yards completing 9 of 21 passes.
