RECAP

Gordy Bohannon got the start, and guided the Hawkeyes to a 35-0 halftime lead. Pete Gales and Phil Suess relieved Bohannon in the 4th quarter when a second wave of scoring ensued for the Hawkeyes. Northwestern head coach Rick Venturi did not take too kindly to the late scoring, and was seen yelling at the Iowa bench, and refused to shake hands after the game.

Northwestern had 8 turnovers on the day and the Hawkeyes racked up 509 yards of total offense, 364 of it came on the ground. Dennis Mosley had 160 yards, and still leads the Big Ten in rushing with 803 on the season.

Iowa now has a 3 game winning streak, something they haven't done since 1964.

Hayden Fry I got about 3 different versions of what he hollered at me, and I don't appreciate it a damn bit. Personally, I hate like the devil that the score got so big, but I'll be danged if I'm going to tell my players to lie down and be dead. Iowa teams of the past have had some of these things happen to them before, and our young men were overdue for a game like this. I've been coaching for 28 years, and I know the longer you're in the game, you're going to get a knot on your head once in a while.
