Purdue QB Mark Herrmann completed 26-of-34 passes for 439 yards to stay in the race for the Heisman. Purdue scored 38 points in the 3rd quarter to blow the Hawks out. He overshadowed the play of Iowa's QB Pete Gales, who broke a school record with 321 yards passing, surpassing the record set by Mike Cilek in 1967 against Illinois.

It was the Boilermakers' 20th straight win over Iowa.
