Iowa's ground game struggled in the first half, but seemed to open up throughout the game. Kaleb Johnson led the charge with 109 yards and three touchdowns (7.8 yards per carry). QB Cade McNamara was replaced in the 2nd quarter after giving up an interception that was returned for an 85 yard TD. Brendan Sullivan replaced him, and was able to use his feet to get out of trouble and extend plays. The offense picked up the pace after his 4th series, and after halftime, the offense exploded for 28 points in the 3rd quarter. Iowa's special teams unit played a crucial role, scoring on an 85-yard punt return touchdown by Kaden Wetjen, along with excellent pooch punting by Rhys Dakin, with one punt setting up a safety. The defense would not give up a score, which was much improved than last week's game against the Spartans. Northwestern returned the favor with their own punt return touchdown, but the game was essentially over.
