Pregame Notes from Sports Information

After recovering a fumbled punt, the Hawks were unable to convert when their FG was blocked. The Hawks offense made a big play when Deacon Hill connected with Steven Stilianos for a 37-yard pass down to the 1-yard line. Hill snuck in for the 1-yard TD to take a 7-0 lead. Iowa moved the ball down the field in the 2nd quarter for a short Drew Stevens FG and a 10-0 lead. Nebraska struck back with a 66-yard TD pass, the longest play the Hawks had given up all season. Iowa responded when LeShon Williams ran 53 yards inside the 10-yard line, but Nebraska blocked another short FG attempt, the 2nd of the day. The Huskers tied the game with a long FG in the 3rd quarter.

With 20 seconds left, Ethan Hurkett intercepted a pass as Nebraska was driving for the lead. Williams rushed for 22 yards on the first play. He ended with 111 yards on 16 carries. The run set up the game-winning last-second walk-off FG from Marshall Meeder (his first career FG attempt at Iowa). The Hawks end the year with 10 regular season wins despite a poor offense. They crushed the record for most wins by a school averaging under 250 yards of offense (4 wins by Central Florida, 2008). The win kept Nebraska from automatically qualifying for a bowl game, which they haven't done since 2016 (7 straight seasons). The game also broke a gambling record with a 24.5 total points bettling line, the lowest of any college football game.
