Kirk Ferentz won his 200th college career victory (all but 12 at Iowa), and it was textbook for how he likes to win. Get a small lead early, get a non-offensive touchdown, and let your defense hold on at the end. The Hawks blocked an early Cyclone FG attempt, and got a long 59-yard run from Jaziun Patterson to take a 3-point lead. A long pass to Luke Lachey set up Iowa's first TD, a 4-yard run by Patterson for his first career TD as a Hawkeye. Sebastian Castro made it 17-0 on a pick-6 30-yard interception return for a TD, and the game was nearly over by halftime. Iowa State scored late to cut the score to 20-13, but the Iowa defense didn't let them get into scoring range again. Iowa was not officially penalized in the game. The Hawks won their 6th straight game in Ames.

Cade McNamara connected on 12-of-22 pass attempts for 123 yards. Patterson rushed 10 times for 86 yards and a TD. Lachey led the team in receiving with 58 yards on three receptions. Drew Stevens was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts for Iowa hitting from 28-yards and 34-yards.
