RECAP

For the first time since 2006, the Hawks won the Big Ten Tournament as the #5 seed. The Hawks defense played tough all game, and was able to hold a lead most of the game. They were led off the bench with great play from Joe Touissant (forcing turnovers), Josh Ogundele (4 points and great defense) and Payton Sandfort (2 3-pointers) to create difficulties for Purdue. They struggled to keep the Boilers off the glass due to their superior height (48 to 30 rebounds), but Iowa caused 17 turnovers to make up the difference. They led 63-55 with 4 minutes left, but Purdue cut the lead to 63-62. Connor McCaffery got a critical 3-point play. A deep pass from McCaffery to Keegan Murray and a slam sealed the game, along with late free throws. Murray ended with 19 points and 11 rebounds to be named tournament MVP, and broke the record for most points scored in the Big Ten Tournament.

PLAYER GAME QUOTES

Jordan Bohannon It really is a dream. Everyone on the team was so committed this offseason and we knew that we had something special here. I love these guys, I love coach. Everything that we have done has been the right way and that’s just what makes it so perfect.
-- Jordan Bohannon

Keegan Murray We knew we were destined for greatness. We changed the history of the Iowa program today.
-- Keegan Murray

COACH GAME QUOTES

Fran McCaffery It is hard to describe, and that’s what everybody says. This team is really special, special to me. Coaching both my boys, and to watch them celebrating with their teammates, their brothers, and to do it together. There is just no better feeling. I think we felt like we had a really good nucleus, but we had to come together at both ends of the floor. We had to identify roles, and sometimes you have to make changes. But this team accepted the roles that we defined for them, and all they do is compete. We beat a really good team today.
-- Fran McCaffery
