RECAP

Phil Reich's 20-yard field goal, his third of the game, with three seconds remaining gave Tennessee the winning edge. A 96-yard touchdown return of an errant pitchout from Chuck Hartlieb by Volunteers' linebacker Darrin Miller put them in front 14-3 midway in the second quarter.

Iowa, which tried three quarterbacks, rallied with two touchdowns by Kevin Harmon and a field goal by Rob Houghtlin to lead, 22-17. Houghtlin ended with 3 FGs on the day. Harmon, the halfback from Bayside High School in Queens, was the Hawkeyes' only effective running back and also caught four passes. The quarterbacks, Dan McGwire, Chuck Hartlieb and Tom Poholsky, attempted 44 passes and completed 22 for a combined 280 yards.
