RECAP

Iowa jumped to an early lead and didn't look back, defeating Minnesota 45-3 and locking up a berth in the Sun Bowl. Matt Sherman hooked up with Tim Dwight for a pair of early touchdowns. The Hawkeyes led 17-0 at the half. Minnesota took the opening kick of the second half and drove 43 yards before settling for a field goal to cut the lead to 14. The Hawkeyes answered on their next possession, with a 66-yard drive that was capped by Damani Shakoor scoring his first touchdown as a Hawkeye from 13 yards out. Iowa scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns on runs by Michael Burger and Shakoor along with a 17-yard pass from backup quarterback Ryan Driscoll to Richard Willock. The high-powered Gopher offense was held to 12 first downs and 25 yards rushing. Iowa defensive back Plez Atkins had two interceptions, to raise his season total to six. Freshman defensive tackle Jared DeVries recorded a team-high ten tackles while Sherman threw for 240 yards (17 for 21).
