Purdue's Rick "The Rocket" Mount set a Big Ten record by scoring 61 points, but the Hawks still were victorious for their 13th straight win. They also snapped Purdue's 30-game home-winning streak, and the first conference loss in Mackey Arena. It was also the most points scored (107) by a losing conference team.

Iowa was led by John Johnson with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Chad Calabria added 25 points, Fred Brown added 23 points, and Glenn Vidnovic scored 20 points.
