Iowa took advantage of Penn State turnovers to pull ahead at the end of the game. The first half ended 0-0 after a punting duel. But after halftime, Iowa forced 3 critical turnovers. George Rogge recovered a muffed punt on the Penn State 10-yard line, setting up a Randahl Hickman 1-yard TD run. Ed Dolly interecepted a pass early in the 4th quarter, taking it down to the 9-yard line. He interecepted a 2nd pass down at the 17-yard line on the next series, setting up a 2nd TD run by Hickman. The Iowa defense halted the Lions late scoring drive at the 5-yard line to preserve the shutout. Hickman ended with 75 yards on 25 attempts.
