RECAP

Iowa uses a record setting performance by placekicker Tim Douglas and a solid defense to take a 37-14 win at Illinois. Douglas tied an NCAA record with three field goals of over 50 yards in one game (51, 58 and 51 yards). The 58-yarder is the longest in Iowa history and the ninth longest in Big Ten history. Iowa's previous best was 56 yards by Tom Nichol. The Iowa defense held Illinois scoreless until the final eight minutes. Illinois had just 40 yards total offense in the first half. After three quarters the Illini had just 34 yards passing on five completions. Iowa's balanced attack included 151 rushing yards and 139 through the air. Iowa also got a 57-yard punt return for a score from Kahil Hill. Defensive back Joe Slattery returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown, RB Ladell Betts rushed 13 times for 56 yards and a score and Kahlil Hill had a 51-yard scoring reception from QB Kyle McCann. DB Eric Thigpen had seven tackles and an interception and DT Ed Saidat had six tackles and recovered an Illini fumble. Iowa recorded six sacks in the game.
