Arizona answered each Iowa mistake with a big play as the 16th-ranked Wildcats won 35-11 in Tuscon. The Wildcats used big plays (56 and 25 yards) on third and long situations to keep scoring drives alive in the first half and take a 14-3 lead at halftime. Trailing 7-3, Iowa appeared to have taken the lead on a 29-yard pass from Kyle McCann to Bashir Yamini, but a holding call nullified the play. Iowa recovered a muffed punt late in the 2nd quarter and was deep in scoring range when the Wildcats picked off a McCann deflected pass. Another pivotal point in the game came late in the third period, when Iowa was unable to convert a fourth and goal from the two. Five plays later Arizona scored to take a 21-3 lead. Iowa had 22 first downs compared to 19 for Arizona. Iowa gained 421 yards total offense, as QBs Kyle McCann and Scott Mullen combined to pass for 393 yards. DB Matt Bowen again led the Iowa defense with 12 tackles. The Hawks finally scored a TD in the final seconds of the game.
