RECAP

The Hawks were victorious at Jenison Fieldhouse for the first time in 10 years. Iowa took a 6-point lead at half, and extended the lead to nine before the Spartans dwindled it down, eventually tying the game at 39 with 12:15 left.

Bobby Hansen sank two free throws with 14 seconds left to put the Hawks ahead by three, 57-54. Spartan guard Kevin Smith brought the score to within one with six seconds left. Kevin Boyle was fouled, but missed the free throw, and a last-second fullcourt shot fell short to preserve the win. Sophomore guard Steve Carfino and Kenny Arnold both scored 12 points.
