Iowa's first ever meeting with Maryland ended with the Terrapins hitting the game winning shot with 1 second to play in overtime. The game was played on Christmas day in Hawaii. Len Bias missed a shot with 4 seconds to go, and Iowa was unable to secure the rebound that ended up in the hands of Jeff Adkins, who made the game winning basket. Iowa was ahead 64-62 with 32 seconds left in regulation, when Andre Banks missed the front end of a one and one. Maryland would tie the game with a basket with 4 seconds left in regulation. Greg Stokes scored 29 points for the Hawkeyes, while Len Bias scored 24 points for Maryland.
