Iowa's first road trip wasn't what the doctor ordered as Tulsa was able to delight the home crowd with a 27-20 upset. Sedrick Shaw, who didn't start for the first time in 28 games, rumbled in from eight yards out to put Iowa in front. Tulsa answered with 10 straight points. Iowa started the second quarter the way it began the game as the Hawkeyes marched down the field on the strength of a 50-yard run by Shaw. Tim Dwight gave Iowa its second lead with his four-yard reception from Matt Sherman. The Tulsa passing game came to life in the second half as John Fitzgerald hit Damon Savage on back-to-back strikes of 59 and 13 yards. Reggie Williams took it in two plays later to put Tulsa up for good, 20-17. Fitzgerald, who finished with 357 yards passing, connected with Wes Caswell for 31 yards to set up Tulsa's final score. Zach Bromert narrowed the margin to 27-20 with his 38-yard field goal at the start of the fourth, but Tulsa stopped Iowa twice on fourth down inside the Golden Hurricane 10-yard line in the final quarter. Damien Robinson notched 12 tackles in the game and also had an interception. Matt Hughes, Tom Knight and Vernon Rollins each recorded nine tackles. This game is considered one of the worst upsets of Hayden Fry's career at Iowa.

Tim Dwight I think we found out that we're not invincible tonight. And we've got a lot of things to work on. I hate to lose. You know, it would have been great to have come back, snuck out and won, then said, 'Oh shit, we've really got to get our asses going.'
-- Tim Dwight

Hayden Fry This was a great learning experience for the players about how hard you have to play and how well you have to execute in every game. Tulsa played a great football game.

When Iowa Graced the Cover of Sports Illustrated in the 50's and 60's

I was in an antique store today, and they had old editions of Sports Illustrated. I browsed through the old magazines from the 50's and 60's, and wondered if Iowa was ever on the cover. I did a qu...1/4/2020

True or False? Iowa Football Struggles in Games on the West Coast

As a lifelong Iowa fan, I always felt that the football team struggled winning games on the West Coast. I would bet most fans would agree with that statement. After setting up this website, it is n...8/26/2020
