Hinkle With Promising Spring

Hinkle With Promising Spring

8/9/2002 by Jon Miller of Hawkeye Nation

NOTE: The following are comments received from Ed Hinkel, redshirt freshman wide receiver.

The spring game was great and it felt good to see my name in the paper. I know that there are things that I need to work on in the weight room and on the field, but everything has been going well and I had a great summer.

I spent a lot of time in the weight room and worked on getting off the line of scrimmage and my route running the most this summer. I feel that I improved on all of those aspects, but I still have room to get better.

It makes me feel good that the coaches have the confidence in me to list me as the starter heading into fall drills, but I also know that nothing is definite right now.

The coaches said that the first two-deep was just a starting point, but the one at camp is the one that really matters. That is my goal. Brad Banks and I have a great relationship off the field. We are always talking and having fun.

He is a great leader and a great person to be our QB.

Not really sure if anything will be different from last year. As a receiver, you want to see the ball thrown a lot but having a good running game will open up the pass.

I always dreamed to get to college and be in the mix right away and luckily I came into a good opportunity with a bunch of guys graduating, so it is a great opportunity for me.
