Good, Bad, and Ugly Indiana 10/20/2002 by Jon Miller of Hawkeye Nation   The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...Indiana The Good A road win in the B10 versus a school that had won 6 straight at home. Iowa has a 100 yard rusher (Fred Russell) and Iowa rushes for 168 yards, 4.5 ypc. Banks completes 69% of 16 passes and averages 12 yard per pass ATTEMPT! Our OL allowed no sacks. Special teams, again! Kick off coverage was outstanding. Save for Nate Kaeding kicking one out-of-bounds, this was almost a perfect performance by the kick off unit. Ditto for the punt return team. Our special teams have allowed us to win the “field-position game” in every game except the ISU game (correlation?) On defense, some will claim we allowed too many yards. Still, IU rushed 45 times for a whooping 3.2 ypc and we held them to 6.9 yds per pass attempt. We recorded 6 sacks, by 6 different guys (Roth, Hodges, Worthy, Cole, Babineaux, and Clauss- pretty nice distribution amongst of DL). Our DL gets better every game. The Bad Turnovers: TO margin was even, overall, but two costly fumbles by our backup RB’s really cost us a chance to put this game away. We will not get away with this at the “Big House”. Tackling was poor for much of this game. Our failure to wrap up the IU ball carries gave them many extra yards on Saturday. I thought our pass defense was pretty good on Saturday and a lot of IU yards came after missed tackles. Penalties: I appreciate that we have stepped up our defensive intensity the last three weeks and we have had some “aggressive penalties”, but penalties continue to hurt this team. Jerry DiNardo saying this week that Iowa is the 4th best team he has faced! The Ugly Ranked near the top ten, on top of the Big Ten standing and riding a 5 game winning streak?…only a “Glass is half empty” type of guy can find Ugly in this.
