Lark Birdsong  

She was a four-year letter winner in volleyball, basketball and tennis at Northern Colorado (1968-1972). She completed her masters degree at the University of North Carolina, where she was later recommended to University of Iowa coaches.

She became Iowa's first women's paid basketball coach in 1974 (first basketball coach hired after Title IX). The first Iowa team finished 5–16 in 1974–75, earning its first victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. For the first 3 years, they did not offer scholarships, and most of the high school players had only played 6-on-6 basketball. During her last two seasons, she was able to split up partial scholarships.

She coached at Iowa until 1978–79 when she stepped down to move back to Colorado. Her final season was Iowa's first winning season.

She helped bring a professional women’s basketball team to Colorado, and became the General Manager of the Colorado Xplosion for two years.

She was named to the Class of 1997 Hall of Fame at Northern Colorado.
