RECAP

This game in 1977 was the first time that Iowa and Iowa State played since 1934. Bob Commings' Hawkeyes upset Earl Bruce's 19th ranked Cyclones inside Kinnick Stadium.

It was a big game with big plays. A 63-yard punt return, a 77-yard touchdown jaunt, a fumble only 19 yards from the enemy end zone and a booming 48-yard punt. Iowa State's defense was nothing short of spectacular, limiting the Hawks to only 192 yards total, 77 of which came on Dennis Mosley's second quarter scoring burst. But the Iowa defense was even better, limiting the Cyclones to only 96 yards and shutting down Dexter Green to only 46 yards in 21 carries.
