Willis O'Brien kicked the nation's longest field goal of 52 yards, and also connected on a 45-yarder in the game, the Minnesota crowd cheered loudly for O'Brien, acknowledging his accomplishment. The Gophers used long TD runs to avoid an upset, after falling behind 3-0 to the Hawkeyes. Iowa's 2 fields goals were the first points scored against the Gophers since 1891 (six shutouts in a row prior).
